Americana Complete:)

Yes! It's all done. It's my first row by row quilt and I love it. Lots of detail took lots of time, but so worth it. I had to change some of it up. I'm donating it to an organization that gives quilts to families of the fallen. So I had to revise the church and cemetery and I made a farm and fields instead.
Now onto the Spring row by row:)

Lynette's Americana Quilt Top

Hi, everyone!

I finally finished my Americana top last week!!  It's 90 x 100 inches.

Scott is really tickled at how this turned out. Thank you so much, Deana, for this fun mystery that was perfect to adapt for his Air Force Retirement quilt. I embroidered some of the lyrics from the Lee Greenwood song, "God Bless the U.S.A." on the bird panel, and the places/units/dates on the major deployments panel, and then I embroidered the bases/cities of our permanent duty stations on the stars panel. I didn't do the mountain panel so I could keep the length where I wanted it, but I'd considered making a multi-scenario panel for Washington, D.C., the Florida panhandle coastline, and the Air Force Academy mountains to represent our major living areas. In the end, the deciding factor was running out of time. I'll have to work that panel up as a mini quilt for his new civilian office!

I'm almost finished with the pin-basting and can start the quilting work today. I don't know if I can finish it all by month's end since I only work on a domestic machine - but that sure would be nice!

Here's the back I put together for it - some fun Air Force fabric with different jets on it. Scott's in the medical field, but he still has that boyish love of military jet knowledge, so he thinks this is awesome sauce on his quilt!  An Air Force seal panel and some leftover border fabrics made a perfect supplement that eliminated the need to match the print on the main fabric panels.  woowoo!!  :D

2 flimsies are done

I was lucky enough to go on a 4 day retreat with 32 ladies...
I worked on these 2 row SALs.....
I have changed the sizes of the quilts to suit me sending them off to our own AUSSIE HEROES who are currently on deployment......
They are only to measure 42" x 72".   So I didn't add the borders even though I love the Americana one the best. Maybe next quilt I can make it fit....
I changed the Americana to an Australiana quilt. The Spring quilt is similar.....
Anyway here they are now waiting to be quilted..

Thanks Deana for the patterns...

I finally managed to finish my version of the Americana Quilt!

Size: 72'' x 56''

The center is made of single blocks from the QAL.
The Snail Trail border is made of blocks I received in a Block Swap.
I really like how it turned out, thanks for the fun QAL!!!

Two DOD tops finished

I was fortunate enough to finish two quilt tops in the last week that were designed by Deana.

The first is Americana and the second one is Quilter's Garden.

Thank you Deana. I have loved working on both of these.

Now on to finish Spring :)

Susan: Americana Ready for Borders

Sorry the left edge is slightly snipped off. This was the best picture I could take without a ladder. LOL

I'm thinking about adding a blue border at the top, too, before I add the last borders.

I am finally finished with my borders. I had a few days off to complete my last rows and I really like the finished product.  It was quite a bit bigger than I thought it would be.  I made the pinwheel's and decided it was too busy so I switched to flying geese.  Thanks for a great design!! Vivian

Americana QAL Complete

This morning I got the final borders on and all seams pressed. I really like how it turned out. It is larger than I had planned, It will fit a double bed instead of being a throw, but it will still work as a throw, and cover well.

The colors aren't very good, as my i-pad and camera both have dead batteries and I used my phone camera. The other side is red and white strips the full length, as shown on the pattern.
I will be using the left over fabric from the blue and the white stars, as well as the same pattern in red. I also have some of the border stars that I will add somewhere too, with the "celebrate" fabric to tie it in.
This has been a very fun project and am glad I joined in. My stash of fat quarters for the project is partially used up, and I probably could do a small wall hanging or something with what I have left over. I will have to think about that one for the future.

I love it!

Americana Quilt sewn together.  I do not have room to add the mountains.
All it needs is a border.

Some lovely rows and blocks made by participants

Here are some wonderful rows and blocks made by your fellow group members ... Pat and Sue.

Hello ladies!

Hello Ladies!  I nearly have the final Americana pattern ready to email but I have had an exhausting day.  Check in tomorrow night after I get home from work and settled.  Thanks for your patience!

The Spring final pattern was just emailed out.

I fixed all of my birds so they're great now!  Finished my bird row. I like how it turned out.

I actually got them done in time..

I finally had some time to do some sewing for me. All day. It was so good.
I am doing my quilt a little bit skinner than the pattern so there will be some differences when it is finished... Oh we are so close....

Judi's Americana and Spring rows

Here are my purple mountains majesty  mostly batiks. I plan on adding amber waves of grain and sea to shinning sea.
And only one birdhouse for now. I'm trying to get two quilts ready for a show and I forget how much time that takes:)

Here are my birds for the Spring row by row. Somehow I messed up & cut them wrong so they were too small. Oh well, I guess you can always find a way to fix it. So I added more fabric. Sewed a little here & there & they came out just the right size.  I'm thinking that I'll embroider some legs & maybe add a bit more tail on the blank spot to the left so they have more of a wing.

Here are my purple mountain row! I had a blast doing this row. I actually got the whole row done!

I'm pretty please with the way my color choices came out.
Looking forward to getting this top finished.

Patriotic update

It's a little hard to see the "mountain" row, but the top covers my queen size bed.

Thank you everyone for all your positive comments. I am very happy with how this quilt is coming together.

January blocks

My quilt will have a section with 1 bird and 2 birdhouses.
My Americana quilt will have one mountain.  A patriotic mountain.  I used a stripe fabric instead of piecing strips.

Purple Mountains Majesty

That was my first thought when I got this pattern for row 7. I love this row.
So much so, I did this on Saturday . . .

My plan is to add the last three rows on Sunday.
Thank you Deana :)

Mountain Row Finished

I am in love with this row! It has everything I love about the mountains - purple as the sun moves low, blue the way they look in the distance in the desert, wildflower strips, birds flying, desert sand ... Just a wonderful conglomeration of lights and shadows. My favorite row so far - and finished the earliest ever, too! Sorry it's crooked, but if I straighten it more, I lose the sides.

I'm finally putting things together and finishing parts that I didn't finish for the schoolhouse row. I've rearranged things slightly, and row 1 - the fireworks - isn't done yet, either, but I'm really happy about the way it looks so far.

Oops! I took that picture before I did this with the birdhouses:

Final Row

I decided not to do the mountains for my final row. The reason is that my sister, Dorine, gave me this flag many years ago when I was going to do an Americana quilt. As I said before, I never found a pattern that I liked, so never got it made. This was the perfect time and pattern to use the flag, so here is my final row:

Because my quilt is smaller, I made the sashing rows narrower also.

Can't wait for February and the pattern for the side stars.
